The NY Bobcats and LI Gulls were well represented at the New York Islanders developmental camp, being held during the week of July 6-12 th at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island. The Bobcats and Gulls had 5 alumni attend the camp: Matt Mangene from Manorville attending Maine, Mike Marcou from Kings Park attending UMass Amherst, Dan Markowitz from Jericho attending Dartmouth, Steven Schultz from Westbury attending Colorado College, and Zak Stone from Roslyn attending Northeastern. These players received the invitation because they are among the top prospects from Long Island and were awarded the opportunity to showcase their skills in front of the entire Islander organization. They joined several of the Islander draft picks and prospects, including 2010 Entry Draft picks Nino Niederreiter (5 th overall) and Brock Nelson (30 th overall) in the camp.
Each year, the Islander organization holds this week long minicamp for their top prospects and current year draft picks, as well as several players from local area junior teams and colleges. This year, the organization invited 40 players, with 7 players from the AJHL. "The entire Bobcats/Gulls organization are proud of these alumni. Their hard work and dedication has been rewarded and they have been given the opportunity to showcase their skills in a professional environment", stated NY Bobcats Coach Ed Galiani. He commented that, "The representation of the AJHL in major scouting events like the NY Islanders camp speaks volumes about the progress of our league and its member teams. The NY Bobcats commend our players for their achievements and we foresee a bright future for them and our many top prospects."
