The Bobcats are proud to announce that standout goaltender, Joe Reagan, has committed to the Golden Eagles of Brockport State College for the 2010/2011 season. Joe will be joining former Bobcats Thomas and Danny Galiani, both of whom have contributed greatly to Brockport’s success this season. Brockport is a member of the SUNYAC Conference, which is arguably the strongest Division III Conference in the United States. Joe becomes the sixth player from this year’s New York Bobcats to receive a commitment to play collegiate hockey.
A strong argument could be made that Joe Reagan has been the Bobcats’ most valuable player the past two seasons. During his initial campaign last season, he played 40 games, posting a 22-10-2-1 record with a goals against average of 2.45 and an eye-popping save percentage of .928. He was one of the key contributors on a Bobcats team that finished second overall in the AJHL and ultimately participated in the U.S. Nationals. For long stretches of the season, his leadership and goaltending essentially carried the team. To no-one’s surprise, Joe has brought his game to an even greater level this season. Having recently clinched the AJHL regular season title and an automatic bid to the U.S. Nationals, the Bobcats owe much of that success to Joe Reagan. Through 34 games played this season, Joe has accumulated a 24-6-0-0-1 record with a goals against average of 2.32 and an outstanding save percentage of .929, placing him among the top five goaltenders in the AJHL. Together with rookie Sal Magliocco, the Bobcats have sported one of the top goaltending tandems in the league. Joe’s contributions to the team, however, go well beyond stopping the puck. As one of the most well liked and respected players on the team, Joe’s leadership has brought an attitude and air of competitiveness that invariably translates into success. More importantly, those qualities have permeated the Bobcats locker room on a day-to-day basis throughout the last two seasons. Ultimately, those intangible contributions have been as equally important as Joe’s on ice success.
Before joining the Bobcats, Joe was a member of the Long Island Royals 2008 Junior B National Champions. His contributions to that team were unsurpassed. In addition to earning MJHL All-Star and First Team All-League honors, Joe was the recipient of the league’s MVP and Goaltender of the Year awards. His extraordinary save percentage of .951 was by far the best in the league during the 07/08 campaign. In addition, to participating in the NYS Select 14, 16 & 17 Camps, Joe was selected for the USA National 14 Festival in 2004, where he accumulated the best goals against average of any goaltender in the country. Joe was also a two-time medal winner for Hudson Valley at the Empire State Games, earning a Bronze in 2007 and a Silver in 2006, and was the top goaltender on the Long Island Royals Bantam team that won the 2005 New York State Tier I Championship and reached the National quarter-finals. Joe is also well known for his storied high school career. Some of his many accomplishments while at Stepinac High School in White Plains included First Team All-League and Varsity Goalie of the Year honors in 07/08.
A strong and perennial honor student, Joe hopes to pursue a career in Forensic Science. The Bobcats would like to extend their sincere and heartfelt congratulations to Joe (or the “Bear” as he is affectionately called) and the entire Reagan family and wishes him the very best as he heads to Brockport State College to embark on his academic and college hockey career.
The Bobcats are very happy to announce that John Lineberry has committed to the Golden Bears of Western New England College for the 2010/2011 season. Western New England is a member of the ECAC Northeast conference in Division III college hockey. A veteran and productive player for the Bobcats this season, Lineberry’s tenure was unfortunately cut short due to a season ending injury. While he will be unable to participate with the Bobcats in the team’s stretch run, John’s contributions on both ends of the ice were an integral component of the Bobcats’ success all season long. In addition to accumulating a respectable 3-9-12 line in 31 games, John was one of the team’s top penalty killers and strongest defensive forwards, having been on the ice for only 7 even-strength goals against in his 31 games. A high character player and terrific teammate, John is one of those unique players that does whatever the coaches ask, always putting the team’s success ahead of his own personal goals. His quiet leadership and team play will be missed as the Bobcats attempt to win the AJHL Championship and secure a berth at the Nationals.
By way of background, John had a notable high school hockey career with Bishop Brady in New Hampshire. In addition to leading Bishop Brady to the New Hampshire High School Varsity Finals in both the 06/07 and 07/08 seasons, John was the team Captain in his senior year. John also participated in the New Hampshire Select 14, 15 and 16 Camps, and was selected for the New England Regional Select 14 and 15 Camps. Before coming to the Bobcats, he played for the Laconia Leafs Junior “A” organization, where he was one of the team’s top forwards and the Assistant Captain during the 08/09 season.
The Bobcats would like to extend their sincere and heartfelt congratulations to John and the entire Lineberry family, and wishes him the very best as he heads to Western New England College to embark on his academic and college hockey career.
The Bobcats are proud to announce that former standout forward, Dan O’Donoghue, has committed to the Lakers of Mercyhurst College for the 2010/2011 season. Considered a strong academic school, Mercyhurst is a member of the Atlantic Hockey League, one of the three Division 1 hockey leagues predominantly based in the northeast. The Lakers currently sit atop the Atlantic Hockey League and last season lost to Air Force in the league championship game, narrowly missing an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship tournament.
After a highly successful 2008/2009 campaign for the Bobcats, Dan was selected in the 5th round of the USHL draft by the Des Moines Buccaneers. Playing his typical and consistent two-way game, Dan has dressed in every game for the Buccaneers this season, posting a 4-2-6 line in 30 games.
O’Donoghue spent almost his entire youth hockey career playing for the Long Island Rebels organization in Dix Hills. He did not play a game at the Tier I level until the 07/08 season where as the team’s Captain and leading scorer, he led the Long Island Royals Midget Minors to a New York State Tier I Championship and a National Semi-final appearance. As a Long Island Rebel, he earned a Bantam and Midget Minor NYS Tier II State Championship, which respectively led to Final and Semi-final appearances in the U.S. Nationals. In addition to his travel youth hockey accomplishments, Dan competed for Team Long Island in the 2007 Empire State Games and was a High School Vytra Cup All-Star during the 07/08 season. He was also a member of the Comsewogue team that won the NYS Public High School Championship in 2008.
As a first year center for the Bobcats in 2008, Dan was one of the key reasons the Bobcats qualified for the U.S. Nationals as he accumulated 19 goals and 24 assists in 55 games. His 43 points placed him 5th on the team in scoring and his plus/minus rating of +26 was good for 2nd on the team. In addition to finishing 22nd in league scoring, Dan was also selected for the Atlantic Junior Hockey League All-Star game where he was voted 1st Star of the game after scoring two goals in the contest. Known for his strong play on the defensive side of the puck, Dan’s size, vision, hands and exceptional skating ability have solidified his reputation as a two-way player. His overall strengths caught the eye of NHL Central Scouting last year as he was placed on the Final NHL Draft List for 2009.
The New York Bobcats take great pride in announcing Dan’s commitment and know that his tremendous work ethic, commitment and character, and his overall respect for the game, his teammates and his coaches will continue to bring great success. We extend our sincere and heartfelt congratulations to Dan and the entire O’Donoghue family and wish him the best of luck as he embarks on his academic and athletic career.
January 3 was a memorable evening for the NY Bobcats. Challenging the NJ Rockets, our rivals from across the river, the Bobcats played an exciting, hard-fought game which went into overtime. The shootout victory was won by veteran Vinny Schieda. Fans were also treated to the chance to win great items including guitars, hockey sticks, Rangers and Islanders tickets, navigation system, jewelry, and amazing gift baskets in a raffle for the Breathe for Britt Foundation. This event was made possible by the Bobcat players and parents who contributed the outstanding prizes which resulted in raising $1000 to help the families of children afflicted with Cystic Fibrosis.
We thank everyone who supported the NY Bobcats and helped make our annual charity game a success.
The Bobcats held their first of hopefully many, Alumni hockey games on Sunday, August 9th at Newbridge Arena.
The event brought many players together for the first time since they last played as teammates for our Bobcats.
The staffers that attended were (left to right, bottom then top): Wendy Liotti, Debbie Spidle, Mark Dubeau, Ron Kinnear, Slava Kourgousov, Frank DeMayo, Dan Marshall, Dave Starman, Alexi Nikiforov, Ed Galiani, Damian Cotto, Fred Schoenhut and Gil Valdes.
Two of the players who enjoyed themselves are pictured here with Coach Dave Starman, Pat Moriarty (Hobart) and Tim Filangieri (Boston College).
A gathering took place at Bracco's Clam Bar and everyone had a great time.
Expect a second "annual" alumni game next August too!
