TOMMY TELESCA COMMITS TO SUNY GENESEO

The NY Bobcats are very proud to announce that standout forward, Tommy Telesca, has committed to the SUNY Geneseo Ice Knights for the 2012/2013 season.  Geneseo plays in the ultra competitive SUNYAC Conference, which is arguably the strongest Division III conference in the country.  Located in the historic village of Geneseo in the upstate Finger Lakes region, the State University of New York at Geneseo is a premier public liberal arts college with a rich tradition of academic excellence. The most selective of the SUNY institutions, Geneseo is highly ranked in national publications for academic quality and value.

Known for his tremendous quickness, tenacity and vision on the ice, Tommy finished third in scoring among all AJHL players this past season.  His overall season line of 28-50-78 placed him second in scoring for the Bobcats.  An AJHL All-Star this past season, Tommy accumulated a 40-82-122 line in only 102 games over his two-year career with the Bobcats.  Those numbers place him among the top offensive players in the history of the organization.  His 82 assists during that span are a reflection of his unselfishness and uncanny creativity on the ice.  A player that has always played much tougher and bigger than his size, Tommy could also be counted as one of the team’s power play and penalty killing specialists.  His 22 points on the power play this past season placed him second on the team.  For good measure he also led the team in shorthanded goals with three.  His career +60 was also evidence of his play at both ends of the ice.

The Geneseo coaching staff had the following to say about Tommy:  “We are extremely happy that Tommy has decided to forgo another year of junior to join our program for the next four years. Tommy is an exciting player; he is quick, skilled, and has a great hockey IQ and is someone who we believe has not yet reached his full potential. As a staff we look forward to continuing and assisting with Tommy's development and watching him become the player we believe he can be at our level. Tommy is a great teammate and brings the passion and work ethic that we aspire to obtain in any player that decides to commit to our program here at Geneseo. Tommy exudes the intangibles needed to be successful at Geneseo and we look forward to his continued growth academically, athletically, and most importantly, as a person.”

By way of background, Tommy came to the Bobcats from the Suffolk PAL Junior B program, where he played during the 09/10 season and qualified for the Junior B National Championship.  An MJHL All-Star and Offensive Defensive Player of the Year, Tommy was an integral part of that team’s success.  Prior to joining Suffolk PAL, Tommy was a member of the Long Island Royals Bantam 07/08 team and PeeWee 05/06 teams, both of which earned a New York State Tier I Championship and an appearance in the National Championship tournament.  In addition to participating in the New York Select 14, 15 and 16 Camps, Tommy was selected for the National 16 Festival in 2009 and earned a Silver Medal at the Empire State games with Team Long Island.

The New York Bobcats take great pride in announcing Tommy’s commitment and know that his work ethic, commitment and character, and his overall respect for the game, his teammates and his coaches will continue to bring him great success.  We extend our sincere and heartfelt congratulations to Tommy and the entire Telesca family and wish him the best of luck as he embarks on his academic and athletic career.

BRAD CAMPAGNA HEADED TO SUNY POTSDAM

The Bobcats are very proud and excited to announce that team Captain, Brad Campagna, has committed to the Bears of SUNY Potsdam for the 2012/2013 season.  He will join recently committed teammate, Billy Pascalli, as the first Bobcat players to ever play for the Potsdam program, and becomes the fifth Bobcat player to commit to a SUNYAC school in the past week.  Recognized as the strongest and most competitive Division III conference in the country, the SUNYAC is also highly regarded for the academic environment it provides its players.  Brad becomes the sixth player from this year’s New York Bobcats to receive a commitment to play collegiate hockey.

Having played the last two seasons for the Bobcats, Brad has brought his game to new levels as we head into the AJHL playoffs.  Known for his strong and physical defensive play and steady presence on the back line, he has added an offensive component to his overall game, having accumulated 12 points on the power play in the last 20 games.  His overall numbers of 9-14-23 place him 10th in scoring among AJHL defensemen.  A powerful skater with an excellent shot, Brad has become one of the key components of a team that is seeking its third AJHL Championship in league history.  In addition to being a strong penalty killer, he consistently brings his physical and tenacious play to every aspect of the game.  Beyond his on ice contributions, Brad brings a selfless and committed approach to the off-ice component of the game as well.  His overall character, experience and leadership qualities made him an obvious choice for team Captain this past season, joining teammate Adam Diorio in those responsibilities.  His overall career line of 10-23-33, +33 and almost 200 penalty minutes in 90 games, reflect a model of consistency and contribution.

Brad came to the Bobcats from the New Jersey Hitmen Junior “B” program and was an integral part of their 2010 team that qualified for Nationals.  A two-time participant at the Empire State games, Brad earned a Bronze Medal with Hudson Valley in 2008.   In addition to competing at the New York State Select 16 Camp in 2007, Brad was also a standout high school player.  A two-time Captain for Monroe Woodbury High School, he was also a member of their 2007 New York State Varsity Championship team.  In addition, he was named a NYS Section 9 High School All Star in 2009.        Hitmen’sHiy

A strong student, Brad earned Honor Roll status all four years in high school and was offered entry into the Congressional Youth Leadership Council.  He hopes to pursue a degree in Business Administration at Potsdam and also has a keen interest in the areas of Astronomy, Music and Psychology.  The Bobcat family and coaching staff takes great pride in announcing Brad’s commitment and know that his work ethic and commitment will continue to bring him great success.  We extend our sincere and heartfelt congratulations to Brad and the entire Campagna family and wish him the best of luck in all his future endeavors.

Known for his tremendous hands and vision on the ice, Billy currently sits on top of the AJHL in scoring with 68 points.  His overall season line of 20-59-79 easily makes him the Bobcats leading scorer and puts him in position to have one of the best single season scoring outputs of any player in Bobcats history.  An AJHL All-Star this season, Billy provided signs of what was to come when he finished 16th in scoring as a rookie forward last season with an overall line of 20-31-51 in 52 games.  His 130 points (90 assists) in 94 career games make him one of the best offensive players to ever wear the Bobcat jersey.  His 90 assists during that span is also evidence of his uncanny vision and selflessness on the ice.  Billy’s overall skills have been most evident on the power play, where he has accumulated a 12-24-36 line during his 94-game career.  He has also shown a keen ability to score goals a key moments with 8 game winning goals during that span.  For good measure, he has also accumulated an eye-popping plus/minus rating of +70.  Billy’s efforts were instrumental in the Bobcats securing the South Division’s regular season title in 2010/2011.  As this season draws to a close, he hopes to lead the Bobcats to their third AJHL Championship.

DIORIO COMMITS TO SUNY CORTLAND

ADAM DIORIO COMMITS TO SUNY CORTLAND

The Bobcats are very happy and proud to announce that team Captain and All-Star defenseman, Adam Diorio, has committed to the Red Dragons of SUNY Cortland for the 2012/2013 season.  Cortland is a member of the SUNYAC, which is arguably the strongest and most competitive Division III conference in the country.  Adam will be joining former Bobcat teammates and standout defensemen Stephen Nardi and Kevin Antonik in Cortland, New York.

Best known for his versatility, Adam has played both forward and defense during his long and successful 149 game career (and counting) with the Bobcats.  A strong skater with excellent vision and hockey I.Q., Adam has seamlessly transitioned between the front and back lines at various stages of his Bobcat tenure, always placing the needs of the team first.  This selfless and team-first approach made him the obvious choice for Captain this past season.  In addition to these leadership qualities, Adam is also well known for his strong penalty killing, and his consistently tenacious and physical play that has earned him almost 200 total penalty minutes the past three seasons.  As an offensive defenseman and one of the team’s key power play specialists, he has scored a significant number of his points playing on the back line.  His 15-39-54 career scoring line and +46 rating places him with an elite group of all time Bobcats defensemen.  As his junior hockey career comes to a close, he is focused on helping the Bobcats earn their third AJHL League Championship.  Committed on and off the ice, Adam’s selflessness and team-first attitude exemplify the very intangibles every team needs to succeed.  As he moves forward with his college hockey career, it is clear that those qualities will continue to be his greatest attributes.

Adam came to the Bobcats with a long list of accomplishments.  In addition to being a consistent performer at the Atlantic District Select Camps, he participated in the U.S. National Festival as a fourteen year old.  In 2007, he participated in the Empire State Games as a member of the New York City team.  He was also a standout high school player, having earned MVP honors for Monsignor Farrell’s Varsity during the 07/08 season and having been selected as First Team All League in the Catholic High School Hockey League that same season.  Before joining the Bobcats, Adam played for the New Jersey Titans organization, having been Captain of both their Bantam and Midget Minor teams and having played for their Junior B program during the 07/08 season when they were a Met League semi-finalist.

The Bobcat family and coaching staff would like to extend their sincere and heartfelt congratulations to Adam and the entire Diorio family as he heads to Cortland to embark on his academic and college hockey career.

Having played in the AJHL the past two seasons, Michael brought a significant amount of experience, maturity and leadership when he joined the Bobcats in the early part of the 2011/2012 campaign.  Those attributes had an immediate impact on the team and have contributed to the overall success of the Bobcats throughout the season.  A gritty, physical and tenacious player, Michael has been one of the team’s most consistent defensive forwards from game to game.  A strong penalty killer and relentless back checker, he has also contributed at key moments on the offensive end.

BEAU LARDNER HEADS TO NYU
posted 01/23/2012

LARDNER HEADED TO NEW YORK UNIVERSITY

The Bobcats are very happy and proud to announce that Beau Lardner will be attending and playing hockey at New York University for the upcoming 2012/2013 season.  NYU is a Division 2 Program in the American Collegiate Hockey Association.

Before coming to the Bobcats, Beau attended Trinity Pawling Prep School, where he was a member of their noted hockey program.  In addition to bringing that experience to the Bobcats for his first year of Junior “A” hockey, Beau has brought a long list of intangibles that aren’t typically found in the game sheet, but rarely go unnoticed by his coaches and teammates.  In addition to his character and team attitude in the locker-room, he is consistently one of the hardest workers on and off the ice and always places the team’s goals before his own personal goals.  In this era of the “me first” athlete, Beau has stood out as the antithesis of that depiction.

With an opportunity to attend one of the strongest academic institutions in the New York area, Beau hopes to pursue a degree in Communications or Sports Management. The attributes and characteristics he brings to the ice will no doubt transcend to his academic pursuits and will ensure certain success in all of his future endeavors.

The Bobcat organization would like to extend its sincere and heartfelt congratulations to Beau and the entire Lardner family, and wishes him the very best as he heads to NYU to begin his academic and college hockey career.

Over the past weekend, Soffer was fantastic for the Bobcats in a pair of wins over the league's top two teams.

The following is an article published by Union College to its web site honoring its ’10-’11 ECAC awards recipients."

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ - Union College men's ice hockey head coach Nate Leaman has been named the ECAC Hockey 2010-11 Tim Taylor Award for Coach of the Year for the second straight season, the conference announced Monday. Leaman tops a list of five individual awards earned by Union at the league's annual banquet, held at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ.

Sophomore goaltender Keith Kinkaid earned the Ken Dryden Award for Goaltender of the Year, while Adam Presizniuk earned Best Defensive Forward honors, Brock Matheson earned Best Defensive Defenseman honors, and Stephane Boileau was named ECAC Student-Athlete of the Year.

Under Leaman's direction, Union has posted a school-record 26 victories, including a program-best 17 conference wins. The Dutchmen earned the Cleary Cup as ECAC Hockey regular season champions for the first time in the team's 20-year Division I history.

Selected to finish third in both the coaches' preseason and media polls, the Dutchmen earned a No. 1 seed in the league's postseason tournament. Union's .718 winning percentage overall is fifth in the country and the highest all-time in school history.

Kinkaid, a Hobey Baker candidate, posted a conference record of 17-3-2 (.818), leading the league. Overall, Kinkaid set the school single-season wins record this year (25), breaking Corey Milan's previous record of 19 set in 2008-09. He also moved into second on the school's all time wins list with 37 career victories, trailing only Kris Mayotte (46 win from 2002-06) on the list. Presizniuk, one of the Dutchmen assistant captains this season, has played a key role as a penalty killer for Union during his four years at Union.  Despite missing six games with a thumb injury, Presizniuk is currently fourth on the team in scoring with 33 points (12 goals, 21 assists). On Oct. 9, Presizniuk set a school record with five assists in a 7-3 win against Sacred Heart. He became the school's all-time leader in scoring and assists in the Division I era on Jan. 7 with an assist against St. Lawrence.

Matheson, the team captain, registered a career-high plus-25 rating in the regular season, and also set career bests with seven assists and ten points. Matheson is one of two Union defensemen to have started all 39 games this season. He is only senior defenseman on a team with the No. 1 scoring defense in the nation (2.10 goals allowed/game).

Boileau, a two-time winner of the Thomas VanArden Dukeheart Award for highest grade point average on the team, is Union's third Student-Athlete of the Year winner in the last five seasons. This season, Boileau is one of 10 finalists for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, and also earned a nomination for the 2011 Hockey Humanitarian Award. Boileau has posted four goals and six assists in 26 games to move among the top 50 point-scorers in school history.
